Sensing and measurement
We develop strain-gauge-based sensors and measurement arrangements. Our work begins with the physical behaviour and the way the railway, vehicle and operating process affect the measurement.
Company & experience
On-Track Technology develops integrated measurement, monitoring and operational-safety systems for freight, mining, industrial and infrastructure railways.
Founded in South Africa in 2006, we work across the system—from rail sensing and field electronics to communications, applications, reporting and process integration. Customers and project partners have access to people who understand both the physical measurement and the information it must provide.
Over two decades, we have developed multiple product families, combined with the practical engineering needed to select, configure, install and support each system.
Engineering responsibility
Reliable railway information depends on more than an individual sensor or software package. Sensing, electronics, firmware, communications and application logic must work together under site conditions.
We develop strain-gauge-based sensors and measurement arrangements. Our work begins with the physical behaviour and the way the railway, vehicle and operating process affect the measurement.
Purpose-designed electronics and embedded firmware acquire and process measurements close to the railway. Power, communications, equipment status and remote access reflect practical site constraints.
OTT develops software to configure systems, process measurements, present results and support diagnostics. Information can be delivered locally, through mobile or browser services, distribution or a customer-defined interface.
We define interfaces, commissioning requirements and operational responsibilities with customers, engineering consultants and systems integrators, so information fits the required decision or process.
Railway experience

Since 2006, OTT has supplied and supported systems for demanding railway environments in Africa and Australia. Experience includes in-motion weighing, continuously welded rail monitoring, private-fleet operational safety and specialist measurement.
Installation, calibration, commissioning and long-term investigation of equipment in service inform our product development. Field lessons feed back into sensing, electronics, algorithms, diagnostics and software.
This history gives us a practical understanding of track access, train movements, remote locations, communications, maintainability and connecting specialist equipment to wider operations.

Start with the operational question, conditions and required information. Consider model, location, movements, track access, power, communications and data destination.
Configure an established product around the application. Agree any additional engineering scope and ongoing support implications explicitly.
Work with the customer, contractors and regional partner as required. Agree responsibilities, access, calibration and acceptance requirements.
Investigate issues across the measurement chain. Depending on system and access, support can include diagnostics, configuration, component replacement and upgrade assessment.
Working with partners
OTT works with regional partners where local commercial, logistical and technical capability strengthens project delivery. Our work with HMA combines regional coordination with OTT’s product knowledge, technical qualification and support.
HMA — Halley & Mellowes Australasia — is our regional contact for Australasia. Contact OTT about a new project, or use the HMA contact details for regional enquiries. We will identify the appropriate next step and involve delivery partners where the application requires it.
